As we celebrate the second year of Forces for Good, we are deeply inspired by the Massy employees who continue to champion organisations making a meaningful difference in our communities. With each new round of nominations, the efforts of these groups remind us of the lasting impact we can create together. One by one, each nomination strengthens our commitment to being a Force for Good.

Documenting the impactful work of the Forces for Good organisations has become a cornerstone of this initiative. By doing this, we aim to showcase the resilience of the human spirit dedicated to enhancing the lives of others and amplify the efforts of these organisations.
Semillas de Amor’s comprehensive project aims to nurture children’s holistic development, providing academic and emotional support through tutoring programs staffed by trained volunteers including psychologists, teachers, legal advisors, and community advocates. This initiative promotes environmental awareness and community inclusion while championing children’s potential, regardless of their background or conditions. By fostering a supportive and enriching environment, Semillas de Amor is dedicated to creating a brighter future where all children can learn, grow, and flourish.
Implementing a dog or animal feeding program would greatly benefit the community by ensuring that stray and abandoned animals have access to food and care. This initiative not only promotes animal welfare but also reduces issues like strays rummaging through trash or causing disturbances, leading to a cleaner and safer environment for everyone.
The school’s library currently faces several challenges, including a leaking roof, termite infestation affecting the structure and shelves, and the need for new furniture and books. Sadly, the community’s library is also closed, leaving the children of Sturge Town, a beautiful and historic rural community (known as Jamaica’s second Free Village), without a dedicated reading center. The significance of reading in children’s development cannot be overstated, especially in today’s digital age where attention spans are diminishing. Revitalizing the school’s library is crucial to restore it as a central hub for the children of this low-income community. It will provide them with a vital resource for education, imagination, and personal growth, countering the trend of short videos and reinforcing the value of reading as a foundational skill.
This project involves acquiring musical instruments and accessories to enrich the after-school music program for students in the community. Children from marginalized homes are given the opportunity to learn musical skills and express themselves through music, which not only helps to nurture artistic talents but also fosters creativity, discipline, and a sense of belonging among participants. This initiative has positive impacts on the community of Marchand as it brings families and neighbors together, provides valuable skills and opportunities for personal growth, and helps build children’s self-esteem and discipline behaviors through their musical journey.
The organization is bombarded daily with horrendous cases which require major rehabilitation in terms of medical care. Most of the dogs rescued have to undergo vast procedures including; amputation of limbs and chemotherapy. This means hospitalization at vet clinics for multiple dogs at a time. The Project itself is not a shelter with a physical location, all the animals in its care have to remain in boarding at clinics until homes are found. Most of the time there are over 30 dogs and pups in boarding which becomes a huge financial strain. The plan is to use the grant to offset some of the costs and help the organization continue its work of making a difference not only in the life of the animal but in the life of the special human who adopts it.
