Refurbishing and revitalizing the play area will improve motor skills of the student’s by encouraging physical activity and providing equipment that promotes movement and coordination. Additionally, the enhanced play area will foster social interaction among students, helping them develop and strengthen interpersonal skills such as communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution through shared play experiences.
Carmen Rene’ Memorial School, located in Sans Soucis, Castries, is a primary school serving students from Grade K to Grade 6. The Holy Family Children’s Home (HFCH) is a unique institution on the island, offering specialized care to abandoned, abused, and orphaned children in St. Lucia. Founded in 1997 through a collaboration between the Archdiocese of Castries, Good News Project, Inc. from Wisconsin, USA, and the Dominican Sisters of Our Lady of Delivrande, HFCH operates under the management of the Dominican Sisters with support from a dedicated Board and administrative team. Since its inception, HFCH’s mission has remained steadfast: to provide a nurturing and supportive home environment for children aged from birth to 10 years old.
Their lupus outreach project is focused on raising awareness about this invisible chronic autoimmune condition within communities. Despite its relative unfamiliarity to many, lupus can affect individuals of any age. Their goal is to initiate discussions with healthcare officials to improve medical assistance and alleviate the costs of medications. Additionally, their outreach program aims to establish support groups and provide coping mechanisms for individuals managing the daily challenges of living with an autoimmune condition like lupus.
The St. Lucia Arthritis and Lupus Association (SLALA) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1997, dedicated to supporting individuals affected by arthritis and lupus. Through advocacy, education, and community outreach, SLALA aims to improve patients’ quality of life, raise awareness about these conditions, and provide resources for better management and treatment.
This project involves a complete renovation of the washroom to ensure wheelchair accessibility, the addition of extra toilet cubicles, and the painting of classrooms. Additionally, it includes providing stationery supplies tailored for special needs children.
Established in 1973, the Dunnottar School and Vocational Centre located in Castries serves a diverse student population of 102 individuals ranging from 5 to 25 years old. The school specializes in supporting students with physical and learning disabilities such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and autism. Its facilities include 15 classrooms tailored to meet the unique needs of its students.
